Background:Simi A.J, Ramla Manzil, Kallode ,Kuttichal P.O Thiruvananthapuram is a 41 year old farmer from Mannoorkara village of Kattakkada Taluk (Mob.No 7907480021,7356872443) had a limited land area of 30 cents. In addition she has purchased 3.2 acres. She is very much interested in cultivating agricultural crops in an arranged and scientific way. She assures livelihood security by Integrated Farming System using available resources.Interventions:From 2013 onwardsshe participated in various trainings, awareness programmes, seminars, exhibitions in Kuttichal panchayat and vellanad on organic farming organized by ICAR KVKMitraniketan. All these programmes helped her to increase her annual income. Major. She started cultivating almost 145 varieties of fruits, vegetables, tuber crops, spice crops and medicinal plants. She further increased her farm income by rearing livestock for meat and milk purpose.Technologies demonstrated:

She was using vermicompost from a unit nearby for her cultivation of crops. Considering her keen interest and need for recycling house hold waste and crop residues to convert it in to high quality organic manure, KVK Thirvananthapuram intervened vermicomposting production unit under Swachhta Action plan during 2018-19. KVK trained and constructed a production unit. All the above farming practices increased the sustainability of the system by utilizing the crop and animal waste recycling. She started a shop at Kuttichal exclusively for production and promotion of seeds, planting materials and agricultural inputs to cater the needs of farmers.Horizontal Spread: Inspired by her success, other farmers in this locality started doing organic cultivation. She is also a resource person in trainings. She has acquired skills in cultivation,Cattle,Poultry,Goatry management and composting techniques. Many farmers are visiting her place and taking advice from this enthusiastic successful IFS farmer.
